The Miss New Zealand Festival of Beauty 2011 pageant will be held on April 30 at the Tasman Ballroom of the Alexandra Park Function Centre in Auckland. The winner will be crowned Miss World New Zealand 2011 and will go to Miss World 2011 next December.
The contestants will be taking part in a series of fast track events and charity activities in the weeks before the final event. As part of the relief efforts by the New Zealand Asia Pacific Trust, funds collected will go to the victims of the devastating Christchurch Earthquake.
The first fast track event, Beach Beauty, was held at the Massey Aquatic Centre. The winner of the event will become one of the Top Five finalists.
So far, one of the highlights of the festival is the The least we could do charity auction organized by contestant Alexandra Grace-Scott. This is her Beauty with a Purpose project. The event was attended by 200 guests and included a surprise guest appearance by the popular music group Santana. An excess of $20,000 was collected in ticket fees and auction biddings.
The next fund raising activity is the Top Model and Talent competition which will be held on April 9 at The Picton Centre in Auckland.
